“There is a good basis for solving problems with the Kurdistan Regional Government,” Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi said today, Saturday, during a visit to Erbil Governorate, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

A statement of the regional government stated that “Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received, today, Saturday, the head of the Federal Government, Adel Abdul Mahdi, who arrived in Erbil this morning on an official visit at the head of a high-ranking delegation that included a number of ministers and officials.”

He added: “During the meeting held between the two sides, a light was shed on the latest developments in Iraq and the region and their relations.”

And the statement quoted Abdul-Mahdi as saying: “There is a good basis for understanding and solving problems between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, and there is an opportunity to solve all problems and in the interest of all Iraqis.”

According to the statement, the head of the regional government stressed “the need to resolve all outstanding problems between his government and the federal government by implementing the agreements concluded between the two sides.”
He added that “the implementation of this needs a decision and a firm and serious will to be decided in all contentious issues,” noting that “ISIS still poses a serious threat to Iraq, and there must be increased coordination between the two sides with the assistance of the international coalition.”
