Amazon Relies on Selfies to Avoid “Fake Delivery” And Fight Theft
Against fraud, Amazon draws selfies. Some American giant delivery one must now take pictures to confirm their identity. This new process allows the company to verify, thanks to the facial recognition, that the face of the deliveryman corresponds to the photo recorded in his database.
This new security requirement aims to prevent third parties from delivering packages using accounts that do not belong to them. “The selfies are intended to protect the deliverymen against the unauthorized use of their accounts,” said a spokesman for the firm quoted by Business Insider.
The measure applies only to Amazon “Flex” delivery personnel who are not considered employees of the firm. They work as freelancers and deliver parcels at their expense, with their own vehicles.
In 2016, Uber adopted a similar measure to verify the identity of the driver before a race. To connect to the platform, drivers must take pictures of themselves. If the snapshot does not match the registered person, the account is suspended. A way to protect the drivers but also the customers.
