Apple Cook: Seeing the Huge Potential of the Metaverse

Apple CEO Tim Cook said that seeing the huge potential of the Metaverse, he is investing heavily in the field of augmented reality (AR); it was previously reported that Apple is actively developing AR/VR-specific headsets.

Technology media AppleInsider reported that rumors that Apple is cutting into the future of virtual reality such as the Metaverse continue to spread in the market. Cook confirmed at the Apple earnings conference on the 27th that he intends to develop this field and has invested in the AR field.

When asked in the past about the metaverse or AR/VR, Cook has said that Apple is an innovative company with more than 14,000 AR apps on the App Store. But this time Cook specifically mentioned that he sees the “tremendous potential” in the metaverse field and invests accordingly.

The metaverse refers to the future in which people will use headsets to perform work, participate in events, or socialize in virtual reality. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has made early attempts at this type of virtual reality. Cook’s mention of AR apps isn’t surprising, as Apple was already pushing AR experiences when it added LiDAR (light radar) to its iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro products. There are also rumors that Apple is developing an AR and VR hybrid (MR) headset, which may be launched in 2022.
