BMW Startet 4er Gran Coupe

BMW cheerfully produces a salad of numbers. If the 4 Series comes as a Gran Coupe for a surcharge, it actually becomes a more elegant version of the 3 Series. But according to BMW, the differences are not just in shape.
Munich (dpa / tmn) – The series of new products in the Munich middle class continues: Shortly after the fully electric i4, BMW is now adding the second generation of the 4 Series Gran Coupé in the same league.

The four-door with combustion engine drawn in flowing lines is intended to bridge the gap between the 3-series sedan and the 4-series coupé. This role is also reflected in the price. With a starting price of 45,800 euros, the Gran Coupé is at least 3,650 euros more expensive than an identical 3 Series, but is 1,500 euros below the comparable 4 Series.

Large kidney, frameless panes

The Gran Coupe differs from the classic sedan not only in the large kidney grille of the 4-series, the frameless windows in the doors and the flowing roof line.

The set-up of the Gran Coupe is also sportier, according to BMW, and the chassis, with a stiffened front end and wider track, is also closer to the 4 Series than to the 3 Series.

More space for passengers and luggage

But the losses on the practical side should be limited. Significantly larger than its predecessor, the four-door coupé now offers more space for the backbenchers in particular than before, but differs from the 3 Series primarily in terms of headroom.

The trunk volume is 470 liters instead of 440 in the two-door and the flap is attached to the roof of the Gran Coupé not under the rear window. If you move the back seat, the volume grows to 1290 liters, according to BMW.

At the start, engines with up to 374 hp

Under the hood there are initially three petrol engines from the 4 Series, including an M-Performance model with all-wheel drive for the first time, as well as a diesel. All are designed as mild hybrids. For the Otto group, BMW names output values from 135 kW / 184 PS to 275 kW / 374 PS and 140 kW / 190 PS as well as the choice between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.

According to BMW, the Gran Coupe can achieve top speeds of between 235 and 250 km / h and has standard consumption values between 4.8 liters of diesel and 8.5 liters of petrol (126 to 193 g / km CO2 emissions).
