Catalonia Faces this Friday a Day of Independence Strike

Barcelona on Thursday lived its fourth day of independence mobilization, a day somewhat quieter than the previous ones that had great moments of tension due to clashes between the extreme right and independence groups. A pitched battle that is feared may happen again this Friday.
The independence strike began this morning with multiple cuts of roads and major arteries of cities like Barcelona. Various barricades and demonstrations caused the cutting of the border with France in both directions and many other roads in Lleida and Girona. In addition, shortly after 09.00 in the morning the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont, fled from Justice, has presented himself “voluntarily” before the Belgian justice, after Judge Llarena reactivated the euroorder against him. It is planned to give a statement to the Prosecutor’s Office throughout the morning.
Groups of protesters have cut the border with France in both directions, according to information from the Ministry of Development.
Specifically, government sources explain that the protesters have cut the AP-7 in both directions at the height of La Jonquera (Girona), and the AP-2 is cut at kilometer 179 in Lleida.
In addition, the N-249 at kilometer 79.5 is cut, where Fomento reports that tires and the A-2 have been burned in several places in Lleida.
Protesters have also cut the N-2 near the French border and the N-145 in its beginning.
Iberia has canceled on Thursday a total of 12 flights scheduled for this Friday between Barcelona and Madrid for the call for a general strike.
The airline has detailed that these are six round-trip flights of the airlift between both cities, as a result of the general strike called in Catalonia by the Intersindical-CSC unions and the Intersindical Alternative of Catalonia (IAC).
On its website, Iberia had already warned that this Friday, October 18, some of the flights could be affected and has informed about the alternatives that affected travelers have.
Specifically, passengers whose origin or destination is Barcelona this Friday on flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum and have purchased their ticket directly on their websites or in Serviberia until October 16, have the possibility to book on any other date until October 23, 2019.
On the contrary, if they have bought the ticket to travel with any of the Iberia brands in a travel agency, they must go to it to modify their reservation.
In addition, the airline notifies its customers that if they have reserved a flight that may be affected, they can provide their contact information in the area of ’Booking Management’ so that they can be informed of any relevant developments about their trip through of the ‘Iberia connect’ service.
