CEO of Google Pichai Father Spent A Year Salary for his Son’s Flight Ticket to the US
Sundar Pichai,Google’s chief executive officer who was born in India. The 48-year-old man apparently still remembers memories of when he left for the United States.
In the virtual graduation ceremony speech of the Dear Class of 2020, Pichai remembered when he left for the United State, Sundar Pichai said his father spent a salary year for his son’s first flight ticket to the US.
Pichai said it was also the first time he sat on a plane when he left for Stanford to study. While expressing his humble background, Pichai also said that this was where he was because of his passion for technology and open-mindedness.
The ‘Dear Class of 2020‘ virtual ceremony was held on YouTube. Famous figures such as former US President Barack Obama, wife and former US first lady Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Malala Yousafzai, South Korea’s K-Pop group BTS attended the event.
Acknowledging the fact that students might grieve over plans they have made, or job offers they might lose, Pichai urges students not to lose hope.
“Maybe there are things about technology that frustrate you and make you impatient. Don’t lose that impatience. That will create the next technological revolution and allow you to build things that my generation had never dreamed of,” he said.
He praised the passion for technology and an open mind. “Believe me when I say I didn’t see this coming when I first landed in the state of California,” Pichai said.
Pichai joined Google in 2004 and is credited primarily for his contributions to Google Toolbar and Chrome. He also worked later on Android, and in 2015, was announced as the CEO of Google.
