CHP’s Kılıçdaroğlu: Turkey undergoing a ’coup process’
Turkey’s anti-terrorism units have attempted to raid headquarters of newspaper Zaman in an early-morning operation, with a goal to detain its editor-in-chief.
Turkey’s main opposition leader has leveled criticisms against the authorities for going after journalists, something “unseen in healthy democracies,” condemned the government for spearheading a “coup process.”
Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu described the move as a “coup.”
“The current process is not something faced in healthy democracies. This is a coup process,” Kılıçdaroğlu said. “Detentions of journalists and raids on television stations in the early morning are not something we can accept in any circumstances.”
