Dior Menfor the 75th Anniversary of the hHouse Elegant …

Kim Jones celebrated the 75th anniversary of the New Look with a sensational menswear collection, and a perfectly orchestrated fashion show, which earned him a standing ovation on Friday afternoon in Paris.

This audacity did not prevent Kim Jones from paying homage to Dior’s legendary “New Look” show, which took place on February 17, 1947, three quarters of a century ago.

“And moreover, Mr. Stephen Jones has been part of the house for exactly 25 years,” he added during a presentation organized before the parade.

Master hatter Stephen Jones immediately clarified, “I started here when I was 3! They ripped me from my hometown of London.”

“Stephen is a longtime friend, and a hero for me. He is also the oracle of Dior. We thought together about what the ultimate collaboration could be for us. For him, it was clear: a conversation with Christian Dior.”

Beginning of the answer: a memorable line of berets with feline prints, available in multiple forms – Scottish hat, flat-bottomed, military, bell…

Kim Jones also had fun developing complex patterns, such as leaf-shaped collars that turned into windbreakers, echoing the short double-breasted jackets found in the first collections of his own line. two decades ago.

If Monsieur Dior loved anything above all else, including fashion, it was his gardens, and Kim Jones paid homage to this horticultural passion with trousers and a gardener’s jacket pulled from the archives, the latter casually attached to the cut. He even imagined a Miss Dior silk sweatshirt hand-embroidered with floral motifs. Worn with an organza and fleece sweater, beautifully embellished with delicate flowers, taken from a 1953 Couture summer dress.

“People are asking me for high fashion pieces for men. Orders don’t slow down, and I think that in a way, selling pieces at high prices in small volumes is the most eco-friendly approach that you can choose. And that’s something that’s very close to my heart,” confesses Kim Jones.
The show also unveiled a new collaboration with Birkenstock. Never has a brand infused more luxury into a partnership with the German brand — the felt clogs were embroidered.

“I do a little gardening. And I love spending time in gardens. But I have gardeners to do it. I just don’t have time anymore,” Kim Jones shrugged. In addition to his activities at Dior, he designs women’s collections for Fendi in Rome.

Kim Jones also focused on high-end jewellery, with a diamond and emerald bracelet designed by jeweler Victoire de Castellane, “the most expensive thing we have ever created”. But also superb costume jewelry in silver designed by Yoon, with gray pearl bracelets, white pearl brooches, leaf-shaped key chains and, of course, lots of stars, luminaries adored by the ultra- superstitious Monsieur Dior.

To thunderous applause, Kim Jones saluted alongside Stephen Jones. A moment of triumph, which made him the most influential menswear designer of our time.
