E-commerce Grows 72% Revenue 2021 in Brazil

The Brazilian Association of E-commerce (ABComm) estimated an 18% growth for the sector last year, reaching at least R$106 billion in revenue. With the economy recovering, the outlook could be even better.

A survey by Neotrust, carried out with purchase data in e-commerce during the first quarter of 2021, pointed to a continuity in this growth. In the first three months of the year, 78.5 million online purchases were made – an increase of 57.4% compared to the same period last year, which resulted in revenues of R$ 35.2 billion (72.2% to more than in 2020).

“At the beginning of this year, 2021, there was an expectation of a reduction in the intensity of the expansion, but with the arrival of the new variant of Covid-19 and, consequently, the second wave of contamination that hits our country, we are faced with an even more intense evolution e-commerce sales not only in Brazil, but around the world”, evaluates the CEO of Neotrust, Fabricio Dantas.

In other words, those who don’t have a strong online presence can miss the train of history. And “online presence” is not just being on the internet, but having a secure online store and an effective marketing strategy. “I always ask the small entrepreneur who is looking for this presence on the internet: are search engines important to you? Do you make decisions by looking for partners, customers and suppliers on Google? So the same thing goes for your business. If you want to be found on the internet, you need to be relevant – and the first one is always your own website”, says the country manager of GoDaddy in Brazil, Beto Santos.

Many companies are able to find customers and do business only through social media. And it might even work – for a while. “I had two thousand friends on Orkut, who today I don’t know where they are anymore”, remembers Santos, who explains that social networks are an important marketing tool, “but you don’t own them. If tomorrow Instagram, Facebook or Twitter change its terms of use, your business will have to adapt”, completes the executive.

Likewise, your posts will have the reach the platform wants to give them – unless you pay for a boost and greater exposure. “Social networks are very important for a business, but in them you are showing a photo of the day, or publicizing an offer of the moment, you are not telling your story”, explains the executive.

On the other hand, a personalized page makes its owner control its narrative: with text, images and videos, the company can show its purpose and display a catalog of products or services. According to a survey by Sebrae, 40% of companies have profiles on social networks and 70% use WhatsApp, but only 27% have their own website (and domain). At the same time, the dependence on the traditional web is still high: 63% of these entrepreneurs access the internet to research prices and suppliers, and 54% access it to buy supplies.

To take advantage of the e-commerce boom and benefit its customers, Godaddy has made a series of improvements to its website and online store creator. In addition to allowing entrepreneurs to create professional visual content for their social networks through marketing tools, the new platform is integrated with Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and allows people to create content, post and monitor it, all via the creator of sites/store.

Making sales through their own online store, the entrepreneur does not need to pay transaction fees on the marketplace, nor see their product displayed alongside competitors. Godaddy also offers a 30-day free trial, without the need to register a card: you can create and publish the website or store and even sell without having to pay first. And if you decide to purchase the service, the payment can still be split seven times on your credit card.

“But I don’t know how to create a website”, you think, after all you have to take care of your own business. “The Brazilian entrepreneur is usually the ‘do it all’ in his company: he buys, sells, hires, manages social networks and, in many cases, has to set up his own website”, jokes the GoDaddy executive.

GoDaddy has two plans for creating e-commerce pages. The “Online Store”, within the “Sites + Marketing” is the best option for beginners, in which the entrepreneur can add products, photos, descriptions and control everything in one place, without requiring any technical knowledge. The format supports up to 5,000 products in the online store, with up to 10 images per product, and it accepts all major credit cards, Paypal and Apple Pay in a completely secure way.

“The first question we ask the customer is whether he has already created a website before or not”, explains the marketing director of GoDaddy in Brazil, Luiz D’Elboux. “If the person doesn’t have any experience, we recommend our website creator, an easier-to-use solution that doesn’t require any programming or web design knowledge”.

GoDaddy’s “Sites + Marketing” system also has a wide variety of pre-defined layouts that can also be customized for each business. “It’s all very self-explanatory. Entrepreneurs can create a website in an hour, and the system already suggests templates and formats that have to do with their business”, explains Santos. In this case, the company already has ready-made templates, related to different types of business, which can be customized to look like the client’s company.
