Entities With A Red Traffic Light Represent 30% of the National GDP

With the incorporation of Morelos to the red color of the federal epidemiological traffic light, there are already four entities of the country at this level: Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Baja California, which together represent 29.5% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Being in red represents that companies of non-essential economic activities will be allowed to work with 30% of the personnel for their operation, considering the maximum care measures for people with a higher risk of presenting a serious Covid-19 picture.
Returning to this red adds another impact not only to local economies, but to the entire Mexican Republic, since in addition to concentrating a little less a third of the country’s GDP, these four territories symbolize 30.3% of the workers insured at the close of November in the IMSS and 36.2% of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) captured between 1999 and the third quarter of 2020.

Meanwhile, there are cases of entities that stopped being on a yellow traffic light, such as Puebla, which since December 3, the local government announced the return to orange, or Michoacán, which also changed since December 7.
On the other hand, Veracruz became the first state to stop being in the green color of the epidemiological traffic light; last December 18 it was reported that it would be in yellow.
Despite this panorama, there are entities that have been able to advance in the federal government’s measurement mechanism; Chihuahua, which was the first entity to return to red, last October, was able to return to orange on December 1.
While Zacatecas, which was in the red color, since December 18 it was reported that it is already in orange.
