Abdullah Öcalan Calls on PKK to Convene Conference on Laying Down Arms
The HDP has called on the PKK to hold a congress to discuss disarmament in Turkey’ also calling on an reinforced cease-fire in a historic joint press conference with the government.
Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) issued on Saturday a call on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to convene a conference on disarmament, citing the PKK’s jailed leader Abdullah Öcalan.
“We call on all democratic parties to support this democratic solution,” HDP’s Sırrı Süreyya Önder told a joint news conference with Deputy Prime Minister Yalçın Akdoğan and Interior Minister Efkan Ala.
“We have reached an important point in the settlement process,” Akdoğan told the same conference.
Önder is a member of a HDP delegation which has been holding talks withÖcalan in his prison in an island off İstanbul.
