“If you Get a Janssen Vaccine your Antibody level will Increase 9 Times”
American pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson (J&J) announced on the 25th (local time) that the level of antibody was found to increase significantly when receiving a booster shot (boost shot) for novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) developed by Janssen, a subsidiary of the US pharmaceutical company. In the case of the Janssen vaccine, which is administered only once, the second inoculation becomes a booster shot.
J&J announced on the same day that the initial clinical trial results showed that when the second vaccine was administered to participants six months after receiving the Janssen vaccine, their antibody levels were 9 times higher than that of four weeks after the first vaccination.
The New York Times reported that J&J plans to submit data from the clinical trial to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA is reviewing the results of a vaccine booster shot study submitted earlier by Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna.
The Janssen vaccine was not included in the booster shot vaccination plan recently announced by the Joe Biden administration. However, according to the results of this clinical trial, the company expects to be able to start booster vaccination with Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna as early as September.
The Janssen vaccine also showed little change in antibody levels even after several months, unlike Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna vaccines, which showed a high preventive effect at the beginning but dropped after a few months.
According to J&J, which followed up 17 of the vaccine trial participants last year, there was little change in antibody levels after six months. According to data submitted for emergency use approval by the FDA in February, the initial protective effect of the Janssen vaccine was 72%.
However, the announcement did not include specific details such as the extent to which the recently prevalent delta mutation affects the preventive effect of the Janssen vaccine.
