Israel forbids its citizens to travel to  Gwermany because of the Corona. The government announced on Monday that the measure to contain the omicron variant of the corona virus should come into effect on Wednesday at midnight (local time). The cabinet confirmed a corresponding recommendation by the Ministry of Health.

In addition, Italy, the USA, Belgium, Hungary, Morocco, Portugal, Canada as well as Turkey and Switzerland will also be considered “red countries” from Wednesday. There is already an entry ban for foreigners in Israel. So far, more than 50 countries – especially in Africa – have been classified as “red”, and Israelis are only allowed to travel there with special permits.

Around 16,000 new infections in Germany – the incidence is rising slightly
5:50 a.m.: After a long downward trend, the seven-day incidence rose slightly for the first time compared to the previous day. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Monday morning as 316.0. For comparison: the day before the nationwide value was 315.4, a week ago it was 389.2 (previous month: 386.5).

The health authorities in Germany reported 16,086 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:53 a.m. Exactly a week ago there were 21,743 infections. The number of reported infections has been falling for almost three weeks. However, due to the particularly contagious Omikron variant, experts fear an imminent trend reversal.

The Green health politician Janosch Dahmen has brought a lockdown after the holidays into play because of the spread of the omicron variant of the corona virus. “We have to get ahead of the Omikron wave with our measures. Our actions today will determine tomorrow’s pandemic situation,” he told the German Press Agency. “Given the extremely high transferability of Omikron, we will probably not get around a lockdown after Christmas. One possible scenario would be a well-planned lockdown in early January.”

For Christmas there is an urgent appeal to celebrate with a small family group. “In order to be able to resolve all the necessary measures against Omikron, the Bundestag and Bundesrat will have to meet again in the foreseeable future and create the conditions for this,” said Dahmen. The federal and state governments will discuss the further course on Tuesday. The Federal Government’s Expert Council had previously warned of a dramatic situation because of Omikron.
