It was May 23, 2011 when “Born This Way” was released worldwide, Lady Gaga‘s second studio album that would have consecrated her as the new queen of pop. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the release of the album, Mother Monster was given the keys to the city of West Hollywood by Mayor Lindsey P. Horvath, who also established May 23 as “Born This Way Day”. For the awards ceremony, which Gaga attended in her presence, Robertson Boulevard was painted with the flag of the LGBTQIA + community.
After the celebrations, Lady Gaga wrote a post on her social media accounts in which she explains who she was her inspiration for “Born This Way“. “My album and song ‘Born This Way’ was inspired by Carl Bean, a gay religious activist of color who preached, sang and wrote about being ‘born this way’ – writes the artist – In particular, his early works date back to 1975, 11 years before I was born. Thank you for these 10 years of relentless love, courage and motivation to sing about. We can all feel joy, because we deserve joy. Because we deserve the right to inspire tolerance, acceptance and freedom for all. ”
