Lady Gaga Wears Islamic Headscarf in Istanbul
After performing her first concert in Turkey in front of a gigantic crowd, Lady Gaga was spotted walking and shopping in Nişantaşı, one of Istanbul’s most famously posh neighborhoods, wearing an Islamic headscarf and a long dress.
The trick ended up a successful one, as the pop diva entered many shops incognito. Lady Gaga expressed much praise for her Turkish fans, who filled the ITÜ Stadium on her Twitter account.
Nişantaşı is famously known for its fashion and designer shops, along for symbolically being a staunchly secular neighborhood, which also highlights the irony of picking a headscarf as a disguise.
In a similar vein, a video of a conservative Islamist reporter, in which he attempted to prove the “frivolous” life of Nişantaşı, recently went viral on social media, revealing once more the discrepancies between Istanbul’s districts regarding the practice of religion.
