Masoud Barzani Phoned by Turkish PM On Shingal Situation
In a phone call between Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Kurdistan region President Masoud Barzani Saturday evening, Barzani said the Shingal liberation was secured and Ankara showed its full support to Erbil in the fight against terrorism, according to a statement from the Kurdistan region Presidency.
Davutoğlu called Barzani to congratulate him and Kurdish Peshmerga forces on Friday’s Shingal liberation, and said Turkey was ready to treat all injured Peshmerga in Turkey, the statement said.
On Thursday Kurdish Peshmerga forces launched a dawn assault to liberate the town of Shingal from the so-called Islamic State.
On Friday, vowing that “no other flag except the Kurdish flag will rise in Shingal,” Barzani declared the town liberated from ISIS and congratulated Yezidi Kurds on the victory.
