McDonalds Reopens Restaurants and 80% are Already in Operation

The operation of the units is mainly through delivery or drive-thru, but some of the 1,025 restaurants already serve at the counter for take-out orders.

The fast food chain McDonald’s is preparing for the reopening in Brazil, after the quarantine due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. With 1,025 units in Brazil, the company is adopting security protocols with the McProtegidos campaign.

More than 80% of fast food chain restaurants in Brazil are operating. The priority is to attend by delivery or drive-thru, which were the only possible ways during the quarantine.

Some of these units in operation are already reopening the doors to serve at the counter and prepare orders for travel. The company does not disclose how many restaurants have been reopened, but says it follows local protocols for the reopening phases.

Among the recommendations, are the use of gloves and masks and markings on the restaurant floor to ensure social isolation. Acrylic barriers were also installed in cashiers at counters, kiosks, McCafé, at pick-up points and at drive-thrue.

The chain will increase the frequency of cleaning the counters, equipment and doors and the number of alcohol gel dispensers in the salon. Card machines have started to be cleaned after each use and restaurants are suggesting that Drive-Thru customers use remote payment methods, such as Sem Parar.

The units also offer materials for cleaning the bags of the professionals who deliver the orders made by McDelivery.

In the first quarter of the year, Arcos Dorados, McDonald’s franchise in Brazil and Latin America, achieved total revenue of US $ 284.4 million in Brazil.

Digital orders saw growth during the quarantine period. In the first quarter, McDelivery grew by more than 100%, demand for Drive-Thru increased by up to 40% and the application accounted for more than 39 million downloads.

Earlier this week, B2W, owner of the digital stores of Americanas.com and Submarino.com, announced that it will allow the sale of products from the fast food chain on the company’s e-commerce platform. In a statement, B2W said it started a pilot in stores in the state of São Paulo on Monday and that Americanas’ local marketplace platform uses a proprietary solution with more than 17,000 delivery personnel.

Worldwide, McDonald’s said yesterday that 95% of its restaurants are in operation. In the USA, 99% of establishments continued to operate in some way, even if only in delivery and drive-thru.
