Moon: “To Build a Strong House that can Withstand Strong Winds”
Korean President Moon Jae-in said on the 4th, “We must keep the free trade order unchanged by drought and return the global economy to a balanced balance.” I hope ASEAN + 3 can play a central role in cooperation. ”
Moon remarked at the 22nd ASEAN + 3 Summit of the 22nd East Asian Nations held in Bangkok, Thailand this morning. There was also concern from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that trade slowdowns would cause 90% of the world’s shared growth to slow down. ”
The ASEAN + 3 Summit was first held in 1997 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of ASEAN’s foundation, inviting three leaders from Korea, China, and Japan, which were then non-members. It was regularized after the launch of the need for a joint response to the fear that the Asian financial crisis could spread throughout East Asia.
“The birds build a house on a windy day,” Moon said. “To build a strong house that can withstand strong winds,” he said with a reminder of the crisis at the time ASEAN + 3 was first launched.
President, “As Asean + Korea, China and Japan are Closer, the East Asian Community is Closer”
“We did more than 20 years ago. As the Asian financial crisis stormed, ASEAN + 3 gathered together for the first time, ”he said.“ Being one in the crisis, we have created a strong economy that accounts for 30% of the world economy. ”
“The conclusion of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) will contribute to free trade and investment in the region, as well as peace and common prosperity in East Asia,” Moon said. “Today’s meeting strengthens our cooperation and protects the free trade order. I hope it will be the foundation for the East Asian community. ”
He added, “I look forward to further consolidating today’s discussions and bringing fruit to the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit and Korea-Mekong Summit in Korea this month.”
