“Muhammad bin Salman Orders the Arrest of the Saudi Royal Family Members”

A source in the Saudi family and another close to the ruling family told the New York Times that Muhammad bin Salman ordered the arrest of 3 of the chief princes of the ruling family in Saudi Arabia, Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz, the younger brother of King Salman and former Crown Prince Muhammad bin Nayef. And his younger brother Prince Nawwaf bin Nayef without giving reasons.

The newspaper mentioned that Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz, the younger brother of King Salman and the uncle of the crown prince had for a while been a great hope for family members and other opponents who were hoping to try to prevent the rise of Prince Muhammad to the throne, but he showed no signs of seeking to do so.

When mentioning the arrest of former Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, the newspaper stated: He held the position of former Minister of the Interior and that he was a long-time favorite of Washington and was effectively under house arrest since he was removed from these roles by the current Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, in 2017. It was not clear why he was arrested.

This news was also published by the American Wall Street Journal, which said that the arrest of the two persons it described as “one of the most prominent personalities in the Kingdom” would “strengthen the authority of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and displace his rivals to ascend the throne.”

The newspaper said that guards from the royal court wearing black masks and clothes went to the homes of the two men, arrested them and searched their homes, noting that they had been charged with “treason”.

The two men who were once on the way to the throne are now threatened with imprisonment or death. The Wall Street Journal has not released any details of the alleged crimes they were arrested for.

The two men had held the Interior Ministry before, but “their position in the royal family diminished, with King Salman granting the mandate of the covenant to his son Muhammad.”
