NATURE WILL DOMINATE THE SPRING / SUMMER 2020

The trend  forecasters Christine Boland, Tony Bannister and Christine Foden come from Holland, Australia and the UK, they have all come to the same conclusion: the color palettes inspired by the nature will dominate fashion and interior design in the spring / summer 2020 season.

The more consumers become aware of the impact of overconsumption on the environment and the effect of stress on our mental health, the more they will want to slow down and go back to basics. The colors, shapes and materials likely to gain popularity will reflect this desire to rethink our habits and reconnect with nature.

Boland, Bannister and Foden were gathered in Amsterdam last week for a trend seminar.

Neutral colors such as off-white, cream and ecru were mentioned by the three experts as a major trend for spring / summer 2020. They will be available in natural or durable materials such as linen, jute and organic cotton. The silhouettes will be structured and minimalist. “The kind of clothing that looks simple, but it takes a lot of work to be done,” says Boland. Touch is a very important aspect in this theme: rustic texture fabrics will be preferred. As for prints, they will also be reduced to their essence with discrete geometric patterns.

.Not only are consumers increasingly inclined to use their wallets to protest against plastic pollution, but they will also take inspiration from the sea to get the peace they want. Discreet shades of aqua, turquoise and blue will be everywhere in the spring / summer of 2020, according to trend forecasters, with red as the accent to all these pastels. Darker and deeper shades of blue, reminiscent of the sea and the night are also likely to rise. References to water will also be in the form of ruffles, flowing fabrics and nautical prints.

The shades of green were obviously part of the list, as spring / summer 2020 will be a time of harmony with nature. “But it’s nature infused with urban functionality,” said Christine Foden, noting that dark forest greens and citrus yellows will be spotted in items such as cargo pants, fishing jackets and multi-purpose pocket shirts. . “Utility mode is here to stay,” said Bannister, adding that this theme will also come to represent technological innovation, as green is likely to be associated with lightweight technical fabrics.

This beautiful blend of red, orange and fuchsia that is sometimes seen in the sky at sunset will be a huge source of inspiration for the spring / summer of 2020, according to the three experts. Burning reds, bright oranges and magentas will be combined with each other. Tony Bannister calls this theme “Atmospheric”, while Foden calls it “Heatwave”. Desserts, terracotta pots, cinnamon, ginger spice and burnt henna also help to visualize what is involved.
