Olga Lucia Vives, the voice of Mirabel in Encanto: “You don’t need magical gifts to improve the world”
Family, magic, songs, colors and a lot of heart! The voice of Mirabel in Encanto, Olga Lucia Vives, loved the film because it is too Colombian, but all Latinos can identify with the history and teaching.

Encanto, the new Disney movie, hit theaters around the world to transport us to the magical mountains of Colombia and meet the extraordinary Madrigal family. Each member was gifted with a unique gift except Mirabel, who must save the world from her and discover what makes her truly special.

As with Coco, the company set its eyes on Latin America again and could not find greater inspiration than the Colombian culture to ask ourselves: “How much do we know our families and vice versa?” With magic, songs, colors and a lot of heart, the Walt Disney 60th classic has achieved much more than its original mission according to Olga Lucía Vives.

“I want all children to see in Mirabel an example that we are all special. When we feel down, sad, or insufficient, one has to look within and realize that it is special. You don’t need magical gifts or something extraordinary to be special and make a positive impact on the world and on the people we love, ”she told La Republica.

As a Colombian, Lucia feels very special and proud to be part of this production: “I loved this movie. It is too Colombian. Our culture is seen in every aspect, from the costumes to the gestures of the characters. Simple things like mouth movements. It is not something that was done lightly (to avoid stereotypes) ”.

For the realization of Encanto, there was an in-depth investigation with reputed advisers from the Latin country. “The work they did was really huge and it was fascinating how they explored Colombian culture and all that is reflected,” she said before revealing that they were worried about leaving something in the pipeline. “They even mentioned that a condor was the only thing missing, but for us as Colombians the film was already too complete,” she explained.
