Papandreou Planted Tree in the “Gezi Park” in İstanbul -Turkey
President of Socialist Internatonal and former Greek Prime Minister Georgios A. Papandreou planted tree in the “Gezi Park in İstanbul -Turkey where this summer fallowing a dispute over the redevelopment of the Taksim Gezi Park, peaceful demonstration against the government’s plans to raze the tiny park—one of central Istanbul’s last green spaces.
Mr. Papandreou is in Istanbul for the meeting of the Socialist International. he decided to visit the Gezi Park in order to plant a tree as “a symbol of the power of the citizens who can define the future with their own voice.”
Papandreou: “I think this is symbolic of the power that our citizens have around the world to have a voice, to create a better future, to decide on their own fate. It is a principle, which goes beyond specific nations,” President of Socialist Internatonal Georgios A. Papandreou accompanied by CHP Deputy Chairman Umut Oran.
