The annoucement has followed a meeting between the CHP and the MHP in Ankara.

CHP chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu met with MHP General Head Devlet Bahçeli in Ankara on June 16 to discuss the prospects for a shared opposition candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, to be held in August. Kılıçdaroğlu had told reporters on June 15 that he would propose a name during his meeting with Bahçeli. The two parties nominated ex-head of Organization of Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin  İhsanoğlu for presidency.

Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu served as the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) head between 2004 and 2014.
