Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Announce First Project on Netflix
Couple works on a documentary series about Invictus Games, a competition founded by the duke.
After the controversial interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to Oprah Winfrey, the Dukes of Sussex are preparing to launch their first project with Netflix. The contract with the streaming platform was signed last year and would have bothered the royal family, as they would not be happy with the repercussions of the series “The Crown”. Harry and Maghan kept the deal, and the couple’s streaming debut will be in a documentary series about the Invictus Games – a global adaptable sports competition for military personnel who were injured or became ill founded by Prince William’s brother. The documentary will be directed by Orlando von Einsiedel and the production by Joanna Natasegara, both Oscar winners. According to Variety, the “Heart of Invictus” series will follow a group of international competitors showing their training and telling their life stories. In addition, the way in which the organizers support their athletes will also be addressed in the production.
“Since the first Invictus Games in 2014, we knew that each competitor would contribute in their own unique and exceptional way to a mosaic of resilience and determination,” said Harry in a statement. The duke believes that the players’ overcoming stories will thrill the audience: “I couldn’t be more excited about the journey ahead or more proud of the Invictus community for continually inspiring global healing, human potential and ongoing service” . The next edition of the games is scheduled for 2022 and will take place in the Netherlands. In 2023, it will be in Germany. In addition to documentaries, Harry and Meghan’s contract with Netflix also covers feature films, TV series and children’s shows.
