Protests Over Floyd’s Death from New York to Washington D.C.
Protests continue in the United States over the death of George Floyd during a police arrest in Minneapolis on May 25th. New York police arrested some 200 protesters overnight, who remained on the street despite the curfew that entered the city at 8pm yesterday evening local time. The number of arrests could increase in the coming hours, a police officer told CNN
. Tensions also occurred on the Manhattan Bridge, where a crowd of demonstrators had gathered. In Los Angeles, thousands of people gathered outside the mayor’s residence, Eric Garcetti. Police spokesman Tony Im said hundreds of people were arrested, largely for violating the curfew, in Hollywood, downtown Los Angeles, and in the Hancock Park neighborhood, where the residence is located. Garcetti. About ten thousand people protested peacefully in Portland and many took to the streets even after the curfew began in Washington D.C.
