Samsung is Credited with Investing in Global Foundries

Industry sources have reported that Samsung is planning to invest in expanding Global Foundries’ production capacity. Both companies are engaged in contract manufacturing of semiconductor products and were previously part of a technology alliance led by IBM.

By the way, the manufacturing facilities of IBM, located in the USA, eventually went to Global Foundries. However, in this case, the idea is not about them, but the GlobalFoundries factory in Germany.

Samsung is said to single-handedly fund the expansion of the Global Foundries Dresden factory, including an increase in the capacity of the power supply.

When asked why Samsung needs it, the source offers a simple answer – by participating in Global Foundries, the South Korean manufacturer expects to get closer to Western markets.

Global Foundries is an American company and strengthening ties with it in the face of the trade confrontation between the United States and China seems to be a smart move. It should also help Samsung pursue plans to become the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer by 2030.
