Scoop – BMW i7 is Already Facing its Rivals

The electric version of the upcoming 7 Series was surprised alongside competing cars, including the Mercedes EQS.

BMW continues to develop the i7. It will be the electric version of the upcoming 7 Series, as the new i4 is the hip version of the 4 Series Gran Coupé. Following a similar recipe, the i7 will therefore share a good part of its elements with the Series 7 with thermal and hybrid engines. The idea is to have a common base and to leave the choice to the customer for the engine.

The differences will be at the level of the grille and shields. Even if the still thick camouflage casts doubt, the i7 should retain the original look that BMW‘s larger sedan would adopt, with main headlights lowered into the shield, under an LED bar. Citroen way!

The car was surprised near a BMW technical center in Munich in the company of rival or closely related models. It is thus a comparative test for the engineers of BMW. Among the vehicles selected, there is of course the Mercedes EQS, the electric equivalent of the S-Class (but with a different strategy, since the two models are very different).

There was also the lower-class Tesla Model Y and a surprising sedan, the Xpeng P7. This is a Chinese model, which shows that BMW takes this competition seriously, perhaps not yet for Europe, especially for China, an important outlet for the i7.

The i7 should certainly take technical elements of the iX, the new flagship of the i range. It exists with versions of 326 and 523 hp, and promises up to 630 km of autonomy. With more favorable aero, the i7 should do better. We will know more when it is presented by the end of 2022.
