The Arrival of An Electric BMW M is Confirmed

The arrival of an electric BMW M is confirmed and we will meet it this year
The past year 2020 was very negative for the sector due to the poor sales results caused by the pandemic worldwide. However, there are some manufacturers that have achieved milestones and still have something to celebrate. This is the case of BMW M, the sports section of the Bavarian brand, which increased its sales by 6% last year when it managed to market 144,218 units. And 2021 promises even more, as they already confirm the arrival of a sports electric.

Taking advantage of the presentation of the figures achieved by BMW M, the brand announced that this year “a high-performance car with an electric motor will be presented for the first time.” In this way, they continue to bet on the “Power of Choice” strategy, which consists of offering the customer versions of all types of fuels so that they can choose the one that best suits their lifestyle. It should also be borne in mind that BMW M turns half a century of existence in 2022 and that there will be more surprises that year. Everything indicates that there will be more electrics made by the sports sub-brand.

BMW at the moment has not officially given more details, but we can imagine what the next electric M model will be. The one with the most ballots is none other than the BMW i4, the next zero-emission sedan that promises 600 kilometers of autonomy. Last year we were able to verify through its prototype that it will have a very striking design that could give play. There was also originally talk of powers of up to 530 hp and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in about 4 seconds, so it would not be unreasonable to make a top-of-the-range variant with the letter M.

It would not be a “pure M” like the M3 and M4 that we recently met in person, but rather it would be on the step of the M340i or M440i. In any case, this hypothetical BMW i4 M could be presented alongside the production version of the model. And what would be in store for 2022, for the 50th anniversary of BMW M, could be related to the BMW iX. The electric SUV that is scheduled for that year could also have a high-performance version, a BMW iX M. Although it is still too early to anticipate anything, it seems that electrification will form a very important part of the future of the brand.
