Trump: Let’s Build More Mental Clinics
US President Donald Trump has said he supports serious inquiries into firearm buyers, but said those responsible for the recent mass shootings are mentally ill and more sanatoriums should be set up.
Trump said on Thursday he was talking to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and many other Republicans about the problem of violence and the use of firearms. “They don’t want disordered people, dangerous people, really bad people, really firearms,” he said.
“We don’t want the crazies to have weapons. They are the ones who pull the trigger. The gun doesn’t pull the trigger. The ones who pull the trigger. So we have to look very seriously at the mental illness,” he told reporters in Morristown, New Jersey.
Trump is under pressure to rein in violence with firearms after two random shootings, which killed dozens in Texas and Ohio this month. He made the remarks after moving from New Jersey to speak at an election rally in New Hampshire.
