Trump’s “Secrets Keeper” Resigns After Being Accused of Leaking Family Information
Madeleine Westerhout, the president’s personal assistant, has resigned after being accused of sharing details of the Trump family and the White House with the media, The New York Times reported.
Westerhout, a veteran of Donald Trump’s administration, talked about the president’s family during an informal chat with reporters at a dinner near Bedminster in New Jersey.Trump was informed of Westhout’s “betrayal” on Thursday.
Though Westerhout, 28, is not in the eyes of public opinion as advisers Killian Conway or Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s fierce lawyers, she is the “ear of the president” he hears, and the secret of his secrets.
According to The New York Times, Trump described Westerhout during talks with author Bob Woodward last September as “the secret channel between him and the outside world,” and said: “Madeleine is the key. It’s the secret, because it is the right person.”
She started as a receptionist at the Trump Tower, which was packed with high-profile visitors after winning the 2016 election, then worked as assistant to the chief of staff of the Republican National Committee (RNC) Katie Walsh. In January 2017 she was appointed personal assistant and executive assistant to President Trump, and was promoted to director Oval Office operations in February this year.
