Turkey September Unemployment Rate Announced!
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) announced unemploymentrate figures for August, September and October. According TURKSTAT statement, unemployment rete was 10.6 percent in September period. August unemployment rate was announced as 10.6 percent.
In Turkey, the number of unemployed people over 15 years of age was decreased by 104 thousand people in the period of September, 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year and was 3 million 419 thousand people. The unemployment rate was realized as 10.6% with a decrease of 0.7 points. In the same period; the non-agricultural unemployment rate was estimated at 12.8% with a 0.9 percentage point decrease. The unemployment rate in the young population (15-24 years) was 20% with a 0.1 percentage point increase, while this rate was 10,8% with a 0.8 percentage point decrease in the group of age 15-64.
The number of employed people increased by 1 million 233 thousand persons compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 28 million 797 thousand people in the period of September, 2017, and the employment rate increased by 47.5% with 1,1 percentage points increase.
In this period, the number of people working in the agriculture sector increased by 197 thousand and the number of people working in non-agricultural sectors increased by 1 million 36 thousand people. 20.3% were employed in agriculture, 18.8% in industry, 7.7% in construction and 53.1% in services sector. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the share of the agricultural sector in the employed decreased by 0.2 points, the share of the industrial sector decreased by 0.3 points while the share of the service sector increased by 0.4 points and the share of the construction sector did not change.
Labor force increased by 1 million 128 thousand people in the same period of the previous year and reached 32 million 215 thousand people in the same period of the previous year, and labor force participation rate increased by 0.8 points to 53.6%. According to the comparison made for the same periods; the labor force participation rate in males was 73.1% with an increase of 0.6 percentage points and 34.5% with 1 point increase in females.
In September 2017, the ratio of persons who were not affiliated to any social security institution increased by 0.2 points compared to the same period of previous year and realized as 34.8%. The ratio of informal workers in the non-agriculture sector was 22%, showing no change from the same period of the previous year.
