Wall Street Hesitates while Awaiting New Economic Data

The New York Stock Exchange opened flat on Monday as investors await quarterly results from US retail giants and economic indicators this week to assess consumer spending and the likely direction of interest rates.
In early trading, the Dow Jones index gained 29.87 points, or 0.08% to 35,311.27 points, and the broader Standard & Poor’s 500 fell 0.16% to 4,456.08 points.
The Nasdaq Composite lost 0.39% or 52.85 points to 13,591.997.
