“We have the Second Largest Gold Mine in the World”
Ecuador Has the second largest gold mine in the world and it will start investing it around 2024.
Ecuador’s Deputy Minister of Mines, Fernando Bencalazar, said his country probably owns the second gold mine in the world near the capital Quito and will start investing around 2024.
“When this mine starts production here in Ecuador, about 90 kilometers from Quito, we will have the third gold production in the world, and in terms of reserves it is probably the second largest mine in the world,” Benalcazar told ONO.
The underground mine will start processing in the province of Imbaba in 2021 and will begin to be exploited three years later, for an estimated 66 years.
