Göreve atanan bakan Crouch ise “Bu konu Jo’nun tutkuyla ilgilendiği bir meseleydi, biz de anısına sahip çıkmak ve İngiltere’de yalnızlıktan ötürü acı çeken milyonlarca kişiye yardım etmek için elimizden geleni yapacağız” diye konuştu. Yalnızlığın İngiltere’de 9 milyon kişiyi etkilediği düşünülüyor. 2017 yılında yayımlanan bir rapor, yalnızlığın günde 15 adet sigara içmek kadar kötü olduğunu ortaya koymuştu. İngiltere’de ulusal sağlık sisteminden sorumlu olan NHS’nin bakım biriminin yöneticilerinden Prof. Jane Cummings, soğuk hava ve yalnızlığın kış aylarında öldürücü olabileceğini söylüyor. 75 yaşından büyük olan nüfusun 2 milyona tekabül eden yaklaşık yarısının yalnız yaşadığı düşünülüyor; çoğu günlerce bazen haftalarca hiçbir sosyal temas kurmadan yaşadığını belirtiyor.
