Truecaller is Coming to WhatsApp to Combat Spam Callers

Trucaller said today, Monday, that it will soon start making available a caller identification service in WhatsApp and other messaging applications to help users detect potential unwanted calls over the Internet.
The CEO of (Truecaller), (Alan Mamedi), said that the feature, which is currently in the beta stage, will be launched globally later this May.
Telemarketing and fraud calls have been on the rise in countries such as India, where users receive an average of about 17 spam calls per month, according to a 2021 report by Truecaller.
In February, India’s telecom regulator directed telecom companies such as Jio and Airtel to start blocking telemarketing calls across their networks using AI filters.
Truecaller said it is in discussions with telecom operators to implement such a solution.
“Over the past two weeks, we have seen an uptick in user reports from India about spam WhatsApp calls,” Mamedi said, noting that telemarketers converting to online communication were fairly new to the market.
WhatsApp is the most used instant messaging service in India. The company says it uses spam detection technology to identify and take action on accounts engaging in abnormal behavior, and it allows users to block and report problematic accounts.
For Truecaller, India is its largest market with 250 million users. It has 350 million users worldwide and generates revenue from advertising, subscription services, and trusted lists of companies.
In WhatsApp’s effort to get rid of the inconvenience problem, it is currently testing a new feature within chat groups that allows users to report disturbing and abusive messages to group administrators.
Users can download the WhatsApp application for Android through the Google Play Store, and for the iOS system through the App Store from Apple. The application can also be downloaded for other mobile and desktop devices through its official website.
Users can also download the (Truecaller) application for the Android system through the Google Play Store or manually from here, and for the (iOS) system through the App Store.
