American billionaire  Elon Musk and a group of artificial intelligence (AI) experts and industry executives stated in an open letter that considering the potential risks to society and human beings, they called for a suspension of the use of the language model GPT- 4 artificial intelligence system for training.

GPT-4 is a new generation of language models launched by startup OpenAI, which is more powerful than previous versions.

The letter, issued by the nonprofit Future of Life Institute and signed by more than 1,000 people, collectively calls for a moratorium on advanced AI development until independent experts define, implement and review the sharing of such designs Security Protocol.

Signatories of the letter include American billionaire Elon Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque, among others.

“Robust artificial intelligence systems should only be developed when we are confident that they will have positive impacts and that their risks are manageable,” the letter said.

The letter also details the ability of artificial intelligence systems to compete with humans, which may pose potential risks to society and civilization in an economically and politically chaotic manner, and calls on developers and governance policy makers to cooperate with regulatory authorities.

The letter came as Europol also raised moral and legal concerns about advanced artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT on the 27th, warning that artificial intelligence systems may be misused for phishing, disinformation and cybercrime.
