Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced that the missile strike launched by his country, at dawn on Wednesday, against the American forces in Iraq is a “reciprocal” retaliatory measure with the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani with a US strike in Baghdad a few days ago, indicating that Tehran “will suffice with this response and not seek to step up. ”
“Iran has taken and completed equal measures in self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, by targeting the base from which cowardly attacks were launched against our citizens and our high-ranking officers,” Zarif said in a tweet on Twitter.
Iran took & concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens & senior officials were launched.
We do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression.

The US military said that Tehran fired more than 10 ballistic missiles from Iranian soil at at least two Iraqi military bases hosting American forces.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard confirmed that it had launched the missiles in retaliation for the killing of Qassem Soleimani, a prominent leader in the Guard, with a US operation near Baghdad airport, at dawn on Friday.
The Revolutionary Guards announced that they had carried out attacks on American forces in Iraq “in retaliation for the killing of Soleimani,” who was targeted by the United States with a drone plane near Baghdad airport, at dawn on Friday. US President Donald Trump has commented on the two Iranian attacks on American targets in Iraq. “Everything is fine,” Trump wrote on his Twitter account. Missiles fired from Iran at two military bases in Iraq. Valuation of losses and damage occurring now, news about losses is good so far, we have the strongest and well-equipped army anywhere in the world, by far! I will make a statement tomorrow morning. ”

The US military said that Iran launched a major ballistic missile attack on the US-led forces in Iraq, and the US military added that it was conducting an assessment of damage and any human casualties at Ein al-Assad base in Iraq, which President Donald Trump visited in December 2018, and another facility in Erbil . An army statement indicated that Iran fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles at the US-led forces in Iraq.
White House spokeswoman Stephanie Gresham said President Donald Trump, who visited Ein al-Assad base in December 2018, had seen reports of an attack on US facilities in Iraq and was following the situation. “We are aware of reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq. The president has been briefed as he closely follows the situation and is consulting with his national security team,” she added.
We expect revenge
Hours earlier, Esber said that the United States should expect revenge for Soleimani’s death. “I think we should expect that they will respond in one way or another,” he said in a statement at the US Department of Defense headquarters, noting that this response may be through proxies of Iran abroad or “in the hands of (the Iranians) themselves.”
“We are ready for any emergency, and our response will be proportional to any action they take,” he added.
