Mercadona will Invest 1,000 Mllion Between 2020 and 2025

Mercadona will invest 1,000 million between 2020 and 2025 to strengthen and expand its logistics capacity, as reported on Tuesday by the general director of logistics, Rosa Aguado, in her speech at the Aecoc Supply Chain Congress, which analyzes the role of home delivery operators in last mile logistics.

Of the total amount of investment in its logistics plans, the supermarket chain chaired by Juan Roig has already invested 200 million euros this year and another 300 million will be for 2021.

Specifically, this year, as detailed by Aguado, Mercadona has opened a dry store in Vitoria, in April another for refrigerated also in Vitoria and also plans to open a warehouse for perishables in Zaragoza and another in Getafe for dry, perishable and frozen . The latter, (Getafe) is a conventional venue to support the Ciempozuelos Logistics Block.

By 2021, investments will be made mainly in the logistics blocks of Guadix (Granada), San Isidro (Alicante), Parc Sagunt (Valencia) and Seville, among others.

For his part, the Director of Omnichannel Operations at Carrefour Spain, Jaume Bonet, highlighted that the company has managed to reconfigure its logistics network, made up of 1,260 logistics points, including 12 platforms and the rest of the points of sale, with the aim of promoting omnichannel and adapt to customer needs.

In fact, as he has pointed out, with the new application My Carrefour, used by more than 4.5 million customers, it already offers a “true omnichannel experience”.

Bonet highlighted that the company faces future growth with a network of multi-category, multi-product and multi-format platforms, which adapts to the needs of its business, while highlighting that the Covid-19 crisis has led to the modernization of the supply chains and digitization “not an option, but an obligation”.
