Meta Reveals its Plans in the Field of Artificial Intelligence

The CEO of Meta (Mark Zuckerberg) held a meeting with the company’s employees to talk about a number of things, of which artificial intelligence was the most prominent.
A company spokesperson confirmed that Zuckerberg on Thursday, during a meeting with employees at the Hacker Square booth at Meta‘s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, discussed Meta‘s efforts in the field of artificial intelligence.
It was the first event to be held there since before the coronavirus pandemic.
At the beginning of the meeting, Zuckerberg addressed Meta’s recent layoffs, but focused mostly on the company’s projects in the burgeoning field of generative artificial intelligence.
“In the past year, we’ve seen some really amazing breakthroughs, paradigm breakthroughs, in generative AI and that now gives us the opportunity to take advantage of this technology, drive it forward, and embed it into every single one of our products,” Zuckerberg said.
“We will play an important and unique role in the industry in bringing these capabilities to billions of people in new ways that no one else will,” Zuckerberg added.
Although Meta has been touting its investments in artificial intelligence for a long time, the company has not been at the center of conversations about the latest consumer applications of the technology, which have come from companies Google, Microsoft and (Open AI) that Microsoft supports strongly.
At Thursday’s meeting, Zuckerberg and other Meta executives detailed some of the company’s work integrating generative AI models into Metaverse, the emerging virtual world that the company spends billions of dollars each quarter to bring to the public.
In particular, they talked about how AI can help create 3D visuals for the Metaverse.
Meta said it gives employees access to several in-house generative AI tools to help develop prototypes, and the company hosts a hackathon for employees to showcase their AI projects.
The company also plans to launch a service for Instagram users that allows them to edit photos via text directions, and then publish them to the Stories feature.
In addition, Meta plans to enable Messenger and WhatsApp users to use the most advanced AI chatbots as a form of entertainment.
Meta executives told employees that the company remains committed to spreading AI research to the open source community.
Separately, Mita told employees last week that they would have to work in the company’s offices three days a week, starting next September.
Amazon and Google have also changed their previous work-from-home policies in recent months.
