The CEO of “TikTok” Talks About the Return of the Platform in the US State of Montana

TikTok CEO Xu Zizhou said he was “confident” that the unprecedented ban on the app in the US state of Montana would be lifted, following the Chinese social network’s filing of a lawsuit.

And after the state of Montana passed the ban law, which will enter into force as of January 1, 2024, the White House is discussing with Congress a series of bills aimed at banning the entire network in the country, despite the failure of former President Donald Trump to achieve this in 2020.

“We consider the recently passed Montana bill to be simply unconstitutional,” Xu Zizhou said during the Qatar Economic Forum.

He added, “We recently filed a lawsuit, and the challenge lies in the courts and we are confident that we will prevail.”

Xu Zi Zhu‘s comments came hours after the short video clip platform filed a lawsuit with a US federal court to prevent the ban from being implemented, saying it contradicts the freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution.

TikTok is owned by the Chinese ByteDance group, and many members of the US Congress accuse this platform, which specializes in short and entertaining videos, which is used by 150 million people in the United States, of enabling Beijing to manipulate and spy on users, which its officials deny.

Greg Gianforte, the Republican governor of the northwestern US state, ratified the law on May 17, citing his move as “protecting the personal and private data of Montanaans from the Chinese Communist Party.”

And “Tik Tok” indicated in the text of the lawsuit that “the state activated these exceptional and unprecedented measures based on mere baseless speculation.”

Last week, five users of the application filed a lawsuit before a federal court, in which they considered that the ban interfered with their freedom of expression.
