The Witcher Season 2; Cavill Secretly Built Scenes from the Books into the Netflix Series
The Netflix series “The Witcher” follows the books of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. But not always one to one, which is why Henry Cavill took the initiative!
Henry Cavill is a big fan of the book series on which “The Witcher” is based, and in season 2 incorporated a few lines from the original book into the series.
There is rarely so much dedication and passion on the part of the stars. The lines built in without prior agreement made it into the finished episode in the end and were not cut.
The fantasy series “The Witcher” from streaming service Netflix is based on the “Witcher” book series by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and thus “The Witcher” season 3 will be based on the second part of Geralt’s pentalogy. But the events do not always end the same, in some areas the “The Witcher” series and books differ.
And these deviations Geralt actor Henry Cavill took as an opportunity to cheat a line of dialogue from the books in the second season of “The Witcher“, which is based on the first part of Geralt’s pentalogy, which the scriptwriters did not intend for the series had.
At the end of the first season, which is based on short stories about Geralt and Co., the Battle of Sodden takes place. There is a scene in the books where a passed out Geralt regains consciousness on the battlefield. It didn’t make it into the series, but Cavill still wanted to keep a line of dialogue from the scene.
“There is a fragment at the beginning of the novel ‘The Legacy of the Elves’ [Volume 1 of the Geralt Pentalogy] where Geralt loses consciousness at Sodden. Geralt has a vision at that moment and is talking about death,” explains Cavill. He actually means a scene from the short story “Something more”.
“And these words inspired me with their poetry”, explains Cavill, “they were so wonderfully typical Sapkowski that I wanted my Geralt to pronounce them”. The actor reveals that he found a situation in which to let it flow.
“I didn’t feel like I should have a long discussion about putting the words anywhere. I just did it,” said Cavill. He brought in the true-to-book lines and they weren’t cut out, so they’re now part of the episodes on Netflix.
