Total And Total And Google Cloud Collaborate on Solar Mapper

Total and Google Cloud are collaborating on the joint development of an innovative tool, Solar Mapper, which aims to accelerate the deployment of photovoltaic installations for individuals (B2C) by providing a precise and rapid estimate of the solar energy potential of their homes , first in Europe and then in the world.

Solar Mapper uses new artificial intelligence algorithms that offer better results than current tools, in particular by improving the quality of data extracted from satellite images, the finesse of the estimation of solar potential, the relevance of the technology to be installed, as well as the overall geographic coverage of the tool.

In the case of France, Solar Mapper provides geographic coverage of more than 90%, allowing a greater number of people to assess the solar potential of their homes, with more precision than before.

Total plans to develop a B2B Solar Mapper application, dedicated to industrial and commercial buildings and installations.

Solar Mapper is part of the group’s ambition to become a world leader in the production of renewable energies, with a view to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, together with society.

The transaction is expected to close in January 2021.
