Israel and Turkey Return Ambassadors and Consuls General

In light of the positive developments in relations between Israel and Turkey in the past year – the two countries decided to return to full diplomatic representation.

Following the conversation between  Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan – Israel and Turkey return ambassadors and consuls general.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid: “The renewal of relations with Turkey is an important asset for regional stability and a very important economic asset for the citizens of Israel. We will continue to act and strengthen Israel’s international standing in the world”

Following the conclusions, which were reached during Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s visit to Ankara with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu, and following Prime Minister Lapid’s conversation with Turkey’s President Erdoğan and in light of the positive developments in Israel-Turkey relations over the past year, the two countries decided to return to full diplomatic representation.

Last night (August 16), the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alon Oshfiz spoke with the Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sadat Ünal, and the two concluded the matter.

It was decided to re-raise the level of relations between Israel and Turkey to full diplomatic representation and to return the ambassadors and consuls general of both countries.

The restoration of diplomatic relations is a continuation of the positive trend in the development of relations in the past year, since the visit of President Yitzhak Herzog to Ankara, and the mutual visits of the foreign ministers in Jerusalem and Ankara.
