A New Standard for Bilateral Wireless Charging

Apple would have initially planned to set up a bilateral charging feature on the iPhone 11 last year, but the project would have finally been abandoned, Apple obviously judging the energy loss too great. While some manufacturers have already implemented this possibility on their smartphones, the NFC Forum has been working on developing a standard to promote this use: the Wireless Charging Specification (WLC) standard was presented this week.

The bilateral recharge of the WLC standard will work with a single antenna and will be capped at 1 W. This is little, very little, and this will limit its use to accessories for the Internet of Things: the objective is to give a little blow of thumb to a device in need of battery, not to charge another iPhone. Will Apple adopt this WLC standard on a future iPhone model? No rumor is going in this direction for the moment, but the Cupertino company is one of the sponsors of the NFC Forum and this would therefore not be surprising.

Apple has prepared its online store for the upcoming arrival of refurbished iPhone XS, XS Max and XR. Apple has indeed added new sections for these three models on its Refurb Store, spotted our colleagues from iGeneration. The phones are not yet available, appearing grayed out in the selection filters for the moment, but we suspect that Apple has not done this SEO work for nothing and that marketing is close.

iPhone XS XR Refurb Store

The Refurb Store is often an excellent alternative to a purchase on the classic Apple Store: Apple refurbished products are of excellent quality, often indistinguishable from new, and the guarantee is identical to that of perfectly new products (find out more more). Apple’s refurbished product store, however, is not a very good address for the iPhone, with prices completely disconnected from reality. For example, Apple still sells its iPhone X today from € 699, while the iPhone XS is regularly found at the same price, or even slightly below, in a new version at resellers. If Apple does not make an effort on the prices, the imminent arrival of the refurbished versions of the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR will unfortunately not have much interest.
