A “Workaholic” has Nothing to do with Good Performance!

When you work, you can’t stop eating and forgetting.  A study tells you: “Workaholic” has nothing to do with good performance!

Do you also feel that you are “tired” recently? If the work is not finished, even if it is on time, the heart is still in the office, staying in the stack of unfinished business.

Sometimes you will also envy the strong and your colleagues. Every day, during the process of going to work, you will be greeted with enthusiasm. It seems that even more projects are hard to beat him.

You can’t help but think about it. It’s obviously the same job content, similar workload, and comparable overtime hours. Why does his life seem to be more exciting than your life?

It seems that in contrast, your life seems to be shrouded in the clouds of work, and you who realize this matter are even more unsatisfied with life. You start to doubt the value of your work and even wonder if you are experiencing burnout.

Both of these people are betting a lot of time and effort on the job, but have you found out that there is something different?

The first is “workaholism” that we often hear , overwork and indulge in work, compulsively feel the need for work, and when you find yourself unable to work for other reasons, you will feel uneasy or guilty. The second type of person is “work engagement”  active and full of talent, likes his work and is full of energy, and is willing to invest in it.

In a busy life, are you a workaholic or a job giver? Although it takes a lot of time to work at the same time, the happiness of these two types of people is not the same as the actual work performance. A study by Akihito Shimazu, an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo in Japan, shows that investers have higher happiness and outstanding work performance than workaholics.

In order to understand the difference between the two types of people, Shimadzu has found a total of 1,196 employees from all walks of life in a Japanese company, and conducted a two-year (2009-2011) follow-up survey of these employees. At the beginning of the study, employees were asked to fill out a questionnaire to measure their work attitude (workaholic or work commitment), and to investigate their psychological distress (anxiety, depression, fatigue), job satisfaction and work performance.

Two years later, the same questionnaire was conducted for the same batch of employees. The results showed that employees with higher workaholic traits increased their psychological distress, decreased life satisfaction, and had no better job performance during the two years. On the contrary, the work input has improved life satisfaction and work performance in two years, and the psychological distress is reduced.

Many people think that workaholics put a lot of effort into their work, and of course they will have better work performance. But from the research results, it can be found that when a workaholic has a negative impact on psychology, there will be no work at work. Better performance.

Not only workers, but many students are often busy in activities such as clubs, classes, and part-time jobs. If you become a workaholic, you don’t like activities. My advice in the face of this situation is that if you obviously like these activities and work at the beginning, stop and think about finding the parts that make you dislike, and then try to solve it. At the same time, think about the reasons why I liked the job and regain my enthusiasm for it. If you don’t like what you are doing, you can think about what you achieved on the day and what it means to you at the end of your work. Finding meaning and achievement will make you like this job more!
