App for Smartphones that can be Used to Answer Health Questions
Kanagawa Prefecture has developed a prototype version of an app for smartphones that can be used to answer health questions in terms of scores. The aim is to check the state of mind and body with a perfect score of 100, and to help with health promotion. It is unusual for local governments to create such apps. The prefecture plans to provide a free version in March next year.
In the application, after entering the values of height, weight, blood pressure, answer questions about daily activities such as “is it difficult to go up and down stairs”, or challenge memory check tests using multiple words. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete all of them, including walking speed measurement and reading aloud sentences to check mental state.
The result is shown on a 100-point scale. The score is also displayed by field of “lifestyle”, “cognitive function”, “living function”, and “mental health / stress”. The contents of the app were examined at a prefectural study group consisting of doctors and data analysis experts.
The prefecture positions the state immediately before getting sick as “not sick” and calls for action to return to health. The total cost of app development is about 40 million yen in 3 years.
