Apple is Closing the Old Service – and Your Photos will be Deleted

The cloud backup service, launched in 2011, will close at the end of the month. So that your photos are not deleted, this is what you need to do right now.
Apple announced last month that it will close on July 26 My Photo Stream, a service that allows you to upload files and videos from the last 30 days to iCloud. The veteran service was launched in 2011, with the official launch of the company’s cloud service.
In a message sent to all company customers, Apple says that My Photo Stream will stop automatically uploading photos to the company’s servers on June 26, 2023. At this point, the photos and videos will remain in iCloud for 30 days until the official shutdown – on July 26. This means that if you want to access a specific photo on a particular device, Apple recommends saving it to the device’s Photos library before July 26.
“iCloud Photos is the best way to keep the photos and videos you take up-to-date across all your devices, safely stored in iCloud,” reads a statement on Apple’s official blog. That is, if your content is automatically backed up in iCloud, you have nothing to worry about.
My Photo Stream saves the last 1,000 photos taken (excluding Live Photos) for only 30 days, so that they can be viewed and imported to all different Apple devices – iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac, or through a connection to the iCloud service on Windows computers (in the browser version) . To save the best quality versions of the photos, it is recommended to download them to a Mac or PC instead of an iPhone.
Content uploaded to iCloud via My Photo Stream is not considered part of the iCloud storage quota and is saved at a significantly lower resolution than the original photo. Worried? You should make sure that your content is backed up in the cloud or directly on the device.
