Spotify may Soon Allow you Also to Watch Full-Length Clips

The popular music app is exploring the possibility of adding videos to the platform, and is in talks with potential partners. And this is not the first time she tries her luck in the field.

YouTube, behind you: Spotify may soon allow you not only to listen to music, but also to watch full-length clips – according to a report in the Bloomberg news agency. According to the publication, the streaming app is in talks with potential partners to make the move happen. Currently, video on the platform is limited to podcasts only, alongside only 30-second stories (to help artists talk to their fans).

Recall that the Swedish media giant launched a Tiktok-like home feed last March – but it was more for discovering new music and podcasts, than for watching video. A few years ago, Spotify tried its luck with TV content, such as short clips from the BBC, Comedy Central and ESPN channels – and failed.

Although videos do not generate significant direct income, they serve as an addition to audio (music) income and increase exposure for musicians. Platforms like YouTube offer creators a share of ad revenue, averaging $18 per 1,000 views, which is then split between artists, creators and producers, and other stakeholders. So in fact, a mix of music videos on Spotify could serve as an additional revenue stream for the company, especially considering the recent layoffs it went through.

And it’s important to emphasize: Apple Music, the competing music service, has had full-length videos for years, while YouTube also has a separate app for music – YouTube Music. Meanwhile, Spotify refused to respond to the publications.
