Apple is Interested in Expanding CarPlay’s Capability to Control the Vehicle
In 2014 Apple introduced CarPlay to the world and since then much has not changed with it. CarPlay is an information and media center that operates in the vehicle and draws its sources from the driver’s iPhone. All you need is to connect the iPhone to the vehicle’s information system when the connection can be wired or wireless. The entire connection process is done after Apple cooperates with the car manufacturers in order for them to implement Apple‘s service in their information systems.
Now that advertising on the Bloomberg website reveals that Apple wants to expand CarPlay capabilities beyond the use of apps. Today the use allows you to navigate, listen to music, watch movies and other kinds of different applications that are familiar from the world of smartphones. Apple wants to expand service capabilities and add vehicle control options. Apple wants to incorporate commands such as air conditioner direction, mirrors, adjustment of chairs and speedometer. The CarPlay upgrade project is called Apple IronHeart and is confidential without any approval from Apple on the subject.
In order to make the connection between Apple’s service and the vehicle, Apple must cooperate with the car manufacturers. Manufacturers need to give Apple’s system access to the vehicle’s systems in order for them to work in full overlap and cooperation between them. According to the publications, this collaboration is not progressing at the pace that Apple was interested in and there are car manufacturers that are not cooperating with the IronSource project.
