Know the purity of gold
Hallmarking has been done by the International Organization for Standardization to identify the purity of gold. You will see 999 on 24 carat gold, 958 on 23 carat, 916 on 22 carat, 875 on 21 carat and 750 on 18 carat. Be aware that most of the gold is available in the market in 22 carats, while some people are also seen using 18 carats. If you do not know, then let us tell you that the carat is not more than 24, and the higher the carat, the purer the gold you will get.

import duty on this yellow metal from 10.75 per cent to 15 per cent on July 1, 2022. The change in fee came into effect from June 30. Earlier, the basic customs duty on gold was 7.5 per cent which has now increased to 12.5 per cent. The effective customs duty on gold has gone up to 15 per cent along with the Agriculture Infrastructure Development Cess of 2.5 per cent.
